How Do NBA Over Unders Work?
When you are betting an NBA over under you are placing a wager on how many total points will be scored in the game combined. The sportsbooks will release a line which is the number of combined total points you are wagering if you think the total will be over or under that number.
If you place a bet on the over you are betting the combined score will be higher than the line listed by the sportsbook, and if you bet the under you are betting the score will be lower than the line listed by the sportsbook.
To figure out if you won your bet all you need to do is wait for the game to end and add up both team’s final score and see if it is higher or lower than the line listed before the game.
NBA Over Under Example:
The Boston Celtics are hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers and the over under line is set at 215.5 points. You place a bet on the over which means you are betting that the combined score will be higher than 215 points. When the final buzzer sounds the score is Boston Celtics 120 – Cleveland Cavaliers 101 which means the combined score is 221 points and your over bet has hit.
As we mentioned before it is possible to bet only one team in an NBA over under, so for this example the sportsbook sets the line at Boston Celtics over under 118.5. Since the Celtics scored 120 points if you placed a bet on the Celtics single team over you would cash that bet as well.
